Equestrian Property Turned Paradise

Since the Hulberts’ outdoor living space—and life, in general—revolve around their love of animals and nature, Steve begins his visit with Jane by acknowledging the role his wife Cathy has played in making their dream yard a reality. As a decorated equestrian, Cathy led the design of a horse lover’s paradise they call Yolo Farm—all as a tribute to their prize-winning horses.

When Steve and Cathy aren’t riding or walking the miles of trails that line their Three Runs community, the couple can either be found taking a swim in their lap pool, relaxing in their hot tub, or enjoying a healthy meal prepared in their outdoor kitchen.

Join Augusta, GA-based landscape design expert and Dream Yards host Jane Waldrop as she meets with Andy and Courtney Herda at their beautiful French country home.

The Herdas had a hand in personally designing their outdoor living space. The couple’s goal was to create an environment that reflected them as a family, and how they and their two children wanted to enjoy time outdoors. For Courtney, a pool and edible garden topped her list. And for her husband Andy, a water garden, back porch sitting area, complementary flowers, and an immaculate lawn were what he dreamed of.

With the help of Ian Dovan and his landscape team at Seeds of Change, the Herdas were able to realize the dream yard they’d always wanted. The end result was a cohesive backyard that set the stage for moments of both family togetherness and independence. This was accomplished with a back porch fireplace and adjacent water garden that parents and adults can now gather by. And, what about the kids? Well, now they’re able to enjoy what most every kid does: A large pool and play set!

About Andy Morgan

Throughout his career as a professional bass angler, Andy Morgan has been regarded as one of the sport’s most successful, and decorated, competitors. His unwavering determination and consistency over his 20-year career have led to three FLW Angler-of-the-Year titles. As well, he holds a place atop the FLW Tour’s all-time Top-10 finisher list. Most recently, Andy won his first championship title on Major League Fishing’s Bass Pro Tour. 

Off the water, Andy can usually be found in the field pursuing his passion for waterfowl and deer hunting. He is a past host of Moultrie’s The Hit List and co-host of American Archer. And today, he continues to film hunts for outdoor television.

When asked about his success, Andy is quick to point out the hard work and dedication that have gone into it. He also acknowledges the role his spirituality has played in his success. “God has blessed me in more ways than I deserve,” he says. “I lean on him daily for strength and guidance.”

Country life for Andy is spending time with his wife of 20 years, Missy, their daughter Keylee, age 17, and their dog Elsa on their 70-acre farm in Dayton, Tennessee.

Fire Ants Threaten the Morgans’ Annual Family Cookout

Episode 2 of Country Livin’ With The Morgans picks back up at Andy Morgan’s farm, where he and Big John have successfully rid the property of fire ants. After pondering several possible eradication tactics, the longtime friends and hunting buddies find that, in the end, persistence is the key to their success.

Now that the biting nuisances have been done away with, it’s time for Missy to play catch-up on all the party prep still left to tend to. The answer? As always, she calls on the Calvary—Big John and several neighboring friends and family members—to help ready the delicious southern eats that are soon to be enjoyed.

Once Andy’s back from finishing chores in the field, and at the chicken coop and boat shed, he makes a b-line to the BBQ grill as the Morgans’ first guests begin arriving. Fast-forward to Missy’s customary blessing and a round of sweet tea being poured, now all that’s left to do is eat, drink, and be merry! Once everyone’s bellies have been filled, Keeley, her friends, and other Morgan-family kids head out back for some good old-fashion skeet-shooting camaraderie—and competition!

Another Morgan cookout’s in the books, and it’s as successful and gratifying as all the others that’ve come before it. The way Andy and Missy see things, it’s next to impossible to ruin a get-together at “ the compound.” Because, after all, food, family, friends, and the outdoors are key ingredients in the Morgan family’s recipe for real country living!

The Morgan Family’s Fall Freezer Clean Out

Now that Andy’s back home from his latest MLF Tour event, there’s a boatload of work to be done on his family’s 70-acre Dayton, TN homestead in preparation for the Morgans’ annual backyard cookout. Andy describes this as “a nice, small gathering,” complete with a little cooking, and skeet and archery shooting. But, Andy’s wife Missy reminds him that this “small” gathering entails a lot of work on the entire family’s part.

Missy’s honey-do list begins with clearing fall’s harvest out of the garage freezer in preparation for spring hunting season—and the big party this weekend! Then, Andy has to make sure the lawn and surrounding property’s in tip-top shape while Missy spruces up the back porch area before their friends and family arrive. But, the episode ends with an interesting twist as unexpected guests—fire ants—pay a visit, and threaten to put a damper on the annual Morgan cookout. Country livin’ is never dull!
