Camping is so fun! It’s one of America’s favorite pastimes, but it’s not made for everyone. It can be more than a little challenging to rough it in the great outdoors. But for MLF bass pro Brian Latimer and his family, camping is much simpler because their family enjoys backyard camping.
There’s no right or wrong way to camp, and don’t let the camping aficionados tell you otherwise. As B.Lat reminds us, camping with the family is really all about getting the whole family together, letting the kids be messy, being sure everyone has fun, and spending time in nature. You can do that from the comfort of your own backyard. And the best part of backyard camping? You’ve got everything you need, things you might have otherwise forgotten, right there with you. If you’ve got young kids, you know what a lifesaver that can be!
Backyard Camping Tips
Brian Latimer has three recommendations for backyard camping:
- Start early!
You don’t want to start getting everything ready in the evening time. You want to start earlier in the day so you’re good to go by the time night falls. Get your tent pitched, get your sleeping bags ready, and get your fire started by the time it’s dark. Latimer recommends getting started as early as 9 or 10 in the morning so you’ve got plenty of time to get ready, make mistakes, and be done by evening. - Keep it super simple!
B.Lat knows that parents want to do it all – hotdogs, marshmallows, fires, etc. But you want to keep it simple so everyone is feeling light and happy and no one gets stressed about getting it all done. Less is more! - Don’t sweat the small stuff!
At the end of the day, the point is to be outside with your family, enjoying yourselves. Your kids are going to remember the time you’ve spent together, even if you all just sleep outside and watch movies on the iPad!
Now that you’ve seen just how simple and fun backyard camping is, what are you waiting for? Get out there and get camping!
