Spring has already sprung in Clewiston, FL—and so have Scott Martin’s tournament fishing and mowing seasons. Backyard Life caught up with the legendary bass pro and sportfishing TV host for a sneak peek inside the latest tackle prep, yardwork, and “honey-do” list that need to be ticked off before hitting the road for a much anticipated weekend of fishing.
Tackle Talk
Before Martin begins working on his wife’s home and yard to-do list, he makes a beeline (more on this intended pun later in the video!) towards the garage to gather his vocational money makers: an array of pitching/flipping/punching, bladed-jig, swim-jig, and wacky rig combos. While doing so, Martin describes the precise rod length and power, reel and associated gear ratio, line, and terminal tackle set-up he prefers employing for each. Then, out of nowhere and with a mix of nostalgia and angler’s humor, things lighten up as he begins rummaging through a box of gimmicky infomercial lures before heading outside to start the chores at hand.
Time to Mow Like a Pro
The newest member of Exmark’s outdoor living ambassador team, Martin is super impressed by the commercial-grade durability and performance his new Lazer Z E-Series zero-turn and Commercial 21 walk-behind mowers have provided, thus far. The two, he says, have helped dramatically shave mowing time—all while delivering that signature Exmark cut—on both his residential property and the storied grounds of Roland & Mary Ann Martin Marina and Resort.
Martin then hops on his Lazer and begins making quick work of his lawn and yardwork. Until . . .
An Unexpected Honey-Do (And Exit)
Remember the earlier “beeline” allusion? Well, this is where it comes back into play. Midway through mowing, Martin notices a gigantic beehive under the front porch eave that he says, “has just shown up.” Not wanting to kill them, he dials up a friend for help in devising a solution
While waiting on reinforcements, Martin finishes mowing, wraps up his yardwork by spreading some landscaping mulch, repairs a leaky toilet, changes an overhead kitchen lightbulb, and blows off his carport and driveway.
Once his beekeeper buddy arrives, Martin makes yet another beeline—this time to pack up his boat and truck before heading north towards the largemouth-laden St. Johns River!
(Be sure and check back in late June for Martin’s next video, which will provide an in-depth look at the features and benefits of his Exmark mowers.)
