My wife Marty, our dog Annie, and I live on 20 wooded acres located on the North Oconee River in Athens, Georgia. We’re living examples of why “backyard life” is a priority for us. We eat, breathe, and sleep the outdoors!
Our property is an old-growth forest. The majority of our large trees (both hardwood and conifer) are well over 200 years old.
Our lifestyle IS the backyard! We’re both retired, so—weather permitting—on any given day, we can be found up to our elbows in one project or another.
PLANNING!
Planning, and having the right equipment.
Absolutely. Considerations such as what the space will be used for; who will be using the space; how it will be maintained, and by who; and the size or scale of the space will play a key role in determining how comfortable the area is.
I always conduct interviews to find out as much about them (likes/dislikes, interests, etc.) as I can.
Making a difference in people’s lives and solving problems.
Designing and constructing my wife’s formal garden.
Believe it or not—being outdoors, maintaining the landscape!
