What makes outdoor living fun? A lot, says Outdoors with the Morgans YouTube creator, Mike Morgan. Join him and his wife Melissa as they discuss the joys of rural living, and what they love to do for fun on their expansive Pennsylvania property. Having lived rurally for more than 25 years, the couple has plenty of ideas.
The Joys of Rural Living
For starters, “city slickers” might not consider much of what the Morgans enjoy doing as “fun.” As Mike Morgan explains, “Some of the things we do for fun around here are a lot of work. But, I kind of enjoy it so, I consider that fun.” For instance, one of the things Mike loves to do is saw lumber. “If you lived in a residential area or in a neighborhood, they would probably frown on you owning a sawmill and running it every evening. But, that’s one of the things we enjoy doing here on our property,” says Mike.
Another thing Mike considers to be a lot of fun is cutting and splitting firewood. Even though it’s a lot of work, the family’s able to use some personally and sell the rest as a side business.
Mike’s wife Melissa loves the trees and trails on their property, and taking their dogs on long hikes. “I love to be outdoors. There is such a peacefulness and reverence when you’re out on the trails walkin’. Living out here and having it day to day, it’s peaceful,” she shares. And, she probably walks a lot more than if she lived in the city and relied on a vehicle to get around. Everything she and her family need is right in their backyard.
Other Fun Rural Property Activities:
- Riding 4-wheelers and side-by-sides
- Hunting deer and turkey
- Making homemade maple syrup
- Fishing in the pond
But, what the Morgans enjoy the most is gathering with family and friends around their fire pit. Living on a rural property, says Mike, allows them to just get outdoors and enjoy the day. “It’s not a lot of work when you enjoy doing it.”
