Lawn striping is a terrific way to elevate the curb appeal of your home! Using your Exmark mower, you can add some dimension and interest to your favorite outdoor space – your front lawn. Follow along as Exmark Ambassador Joe Thomas explains the benefits of lawn striping! As Thomas says, lawn striping is for those of you that take pride in how your yard looks, no matter how big or small, and we know you fit that bill.
There’s nothing that makes a yard look better and more “finished” than lawn striping. In case you’re not sure what that is, it’s a texture or design on your lawn that’s created by cutting across the lawn in different directions, typically at angled patterns. As the grass is cut, it’s laid down one way and then the other which causes the blades to pick up light differently, and that’s what creates the stripes.
While striping makes your lawn look beautiful, it actually does more than that! Lawn striping helps with the overall health of your grass. Because you’re reverse cutting and changing the pattern, you’re not stressing the grass as much as a typical cut. And because you’re going in different directions, changing it up every time, you don’t have to worry about creating ruts with your mower wheels. And, finally, striping can prevent building up an unhealthy thatch.
Joe Thomas reminds you that striping looks best when your grass is taller, even as long as 4 inches. His rule of thumb? For a healthier, happier lawn, cut at a 3-inch height in the spring and fall. It’s important to let your grass grow a little bit during the milder months for the overall health year-round. In the summer, you should set your height to 3 ½ inches!
Most of all, remember that striping isn’t all about the technical! It’s supposed to be fun, so enjoy yourself! Take the knowledge of the benefits of lawn striping with you and head out there to mow a perfectly striped lawn.
