In this Today’s Homeowner video, host Jodi Marks demonstrates an easy outdoor shed makeover that transforms the shed’s blank, exterior wall into a unique and economical outdoor living space.
The Shed Makeover Project Steps
For this DIY project, the homeowner took a rather utilitarian shed—something that’s a necessity in many backyards—and turned it into a focal point, rather than simply an overlooked structure.
- First, they painted the shed with a color-coordinated shade to compliment the home it’s situated behind.
- Then, they created faux shuttered windows on the side of the shed to cover the existing blank wall, using a contrasting paint color to create visual interest.
- They then added an arbor with a built-in bar. Tip: Be sure to seal any pressure-treated lumber being used to ensure it’s properly protected from the elements.
- Jodi also notes that you can add additional features to personalize the project. Planter pots, outdoor wall décor, lighting, stepping stones, or even a fire pit, would be a great complement in your own backyard.
Jodi notes that with this makeover, the outdoor shed has become a new focal point and is the backyard’s new “go-to” destination area.
